Notice!

It should not be understood that any mentioned software is always incompatible with DCS. Their mentions here are indicative of problem reports received and solutions found. If you use software mentioned here yet have not encountered any issues you should not worry.

Method

It's possible to find out yourself whether the error is really of DCS. If a file is mentioned in the error text, google it out to see what this file is up to.
If there is no error message it's worth to check Windows Event Logs for DCS errors. (How to open Event Viewer: XP, Vista, 7)

Launcher

  • WidgetTheme.cpp - disable the Catalyst A.I. in the 3D options in ATI Control Center
  • BlackShark.lua - disable the Catalyst A.I. in the 3D options in ATI Control Center
  • atioglxx.dll - disable the Catalyst A.I. in the 3D options in ATI Control Center
  • Asus Videosecurity and Asus Gamer OSD:
Launcher.exe crashes with error code 5
"After each mission, the games stops in the desktop and the 'Launcher.exe failed' notification is shown. The only remedy continues to be to deinstall, sweep and reinstall all graphics and drivers before each session."
    Uninstall both.

Simulation

  • NPClient.dll - uninstall FreeTrack
  • sdl_mixer.dll - reinstall/update sound card drivers/software
  • opengl32.dll - reinstall/update graphics card drivers/software
  • open32gl.dll - reinstall/update graphics card drivers/software
  • d3dx9_38.dll - reinstall/update graphics card drivers/software
  • edterrain.dll - reinstall/update graphics card drivers/software
  • NewView (Cannot unpause at start) - either Alt-Tab out and back into the sim or rename the NewView folder prior to starting the sim
  • SoundMAX caused a freeze at mission start and a freeze at player's Ka-50 explosion

StarForce

  • VMWare Workstation (6.5.x) eats activations - "Remove the recently added "VMnet2" host virtual adapter again. You may have to remove it from the DHCP tab too." original post on the DCS forums

Graphics drivers traces

Windows retains some parts of drivers and thereafter doesn't allow to remove them completely. If simple driver update/reinstallation doesn't solve the problem, it's recommended to use some special software, e.g. Driver Sweeper.
