Windows

No write permissions
Unable to save game settings, make screenshots and record tracks.
Possible error message:
\blackshark\modules\me-logbook.lua:141:attempt to index field 'player' (a nil value)
DCS doesn't have write permissions in its own installation and Windows for unknown reason doesn't redirect DCS to a VirtualStore. It happens when you have User Account Control enabled and installed DCS in Program Files folder.
Run DCS as Administrator via right-click menu.

Input

Sidewinder Force Feedback 2
  • Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 has reversed axis.
    Options > Controls > FF tune > Swap Axes
Cannot unpause at mission start
Press Pause/Break to start
  • There are two solutions:
  1. If you are running NewView, this is probably the source of the problem. You need to either Alt-Tab out and back into the sim or rename the NewView folder prior to starting the sim.
  2. Pause key code returned by your keyboard doesn't match the standard. It's necessary to remap Pause to Pause key via in-game controls options or map Pause function to another key or combination. You´ll find Pause in general section (the upper drop-down menu).
    Also it's possible to map Pause to another hotkey (eg. Ctrl+Shift+O).

Output

  • If you have an AMD/ATI graphics card, set Catalyst AI to "standard" or "off" in Catalyst Control Center.
    For x1900 and x1950 cards, it may be necessary to rollback the driver to version 8.12 (due to those cards not being actively supported by new driver versions).
  • Reinstall your graphics card drivers.
    See also Graphics drivers traces
  • Update DirectX.
  • Don't cancel a DirectX setup launched automatically after Black Shark installation.

Integrated graphics card

Problem reporting

Error message
Copy-paste Ctrl+C contents of the error message while it's active or make a screenshot at least.
Crash file
Look in Temp folder of DCS installation for DCS-*.crash.txt files. If some of them were created in the same time when the problem occurred - attach them.
If problem reproduces
  • Attach the track file. Tracks automatically recorded during the flight to Temp folder in DCS installation.
    SP last track: "LastMissionTrack.trk"
    MP tracks: "client-nnnnnnnn-nnnnnn.miz.trk"
  • Explain the steps required to reproduce it.
  • Delete all files in temp folder in DCS installation and then provoke the error. If anything appears in temp folder please put it into archive and send to us.
  • In shortcut properties remove --console so the console appears after launch. If anything appears in the console after the error - copy it for expert (click on the icon in top-left corner of the console > Edit > Select All > press Enter, now colsole contents are in Windows clipboard).
  • If there are any graphical glitches the screenshots are needed.
    Press Prt Scr button to make a screenshot, it will appear in ScreenShots\ folder in DCS installation.
dxdiag report
Run DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag.exe) and click Save All Information button. (How to run dxdiag: Vista, 7)
Event Log
Look if there are any records about the error in the Windows event log (via Event Viewer). A full error text is needed. (How to open Event Viewer: XP, Vista, 7).
In any case expert should also know
  • whether the problem presents both in Single player and in Multiplayer;
  • your Windows version;
  • number of the installed Windows service pack (if any);
  • DCS version (box, downloadable, language);
  • patch language and version;
  • at what moment exactly does the error occurs.

If you're unable to copy-paste error text, make a screenshot of it. You can use a Snipping Tool for that: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool (guides: Windows Vista, 7).
