Launcher
Wrong working directory
cannot open .\blackshark\blackshark.lua no such file or directory
- Launcher.exe and DCS.exe should be launched from the root of DCS installation (not from bin\stable\ folder where it is).
- Please launch Black Shark with shortcuts created by installer on Desktop or in Start menu.
corrupted Players.lua
..\blackshark\modules\me_logbook.lua:107: attempt to index global 'logbook' (a nil value)
- String number (107) can be different.
- Delete file BlackShark\data\scripts\Logbook\Players.lua in your DCS installation. The game will create a new one on next launch.
- If you have User Account Control enabled and installed DCS in Program Files folder you should look for a file in VirtualStore instead of DCS installation:
C:\Users\<INSERTUSERNAMEHERE!>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50
Simulator
Wrong cursor position while playing tracks
- All training tracks are meant to be played in 1280*1024, 1 monitor. Otherwise, mouse cursor will be positioned incorrectly. It's a known bug, unfortunately without solutions yet.
View related problems
- There is SnapViews.lua file in Config\View\ folder in DCS installation. Move SnapViews.lua file somewhere (or delete), make a copy of SnapViewsDefault.lua and rename it to SnapViews.lua.
General solutions
Different environment
- Try another mission or another multiplayer server.
Patch
- Install the latest patch. They are in Files > Patches section on the web site.
Unplug input devices
- Unplug everything you have plugged in except mouse (unplug keyboard too).
Reset input device settings
- Delete the configuration file for the device you experience problem with. It's in Config\Input\Aircrafts folder in your DCS installation. ka-50 folder is for a simulation mode and ka-50_easy for an arcade mode. Don't remove files beginning with default.
Reinstall from scratch
- Uninstall DCS (there is no need to deactivate it).
- Remove everything left in installation folder.
- If you have User Account Control enabled and installed DCS in Program Files folder it's also necessary to clear the VirtualStore:
C:\Users\<INSERTUSERNAMEHERE!>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50 - Install BS.
- Perform a test flight to see if it is working.
- Install the latest patch.
- Perform a test flight to see if it is working.
- Apply your settings.
- Perform a test flight...
- Apply tweaks...
- Perform a test flight...
- and so on
Problem reporting
Error message
- Copy-paste Ctrl+C contents of the error message while it's active or make a screenshot at least.
Crash file
- Look in Temp folder of DCS installation for DCS-*.crash.txt files. If some of them were created in the same time when the problem occurred - attach them.
If problem reproduces
- Attach the track file. Tracks automatically recorded during the flight to Temp folder in DCS installation.
SP last track: "LastMissionTrack.trk"
MP tracks: "client-nnnnnnnn-nnnnnn.miz.trk" - Explain the steps required to reproduce it.
- Delete all files in temp folder in DCS installation and then provoke the error. If anything appears in temp folder please put it into archive and send to us.
- In shortcut properties remove --console so the console appears after launch. If anything appears in the console after the error - copy it for expert (click on the icon in top-left corner of the console > Edit > Select All > press Enter, now colsole contents are in Windows clipboard).
- If there are any graphical glitches the screenshots are needed.
Press Prt Scr button to make a screenshot, it will appear in ScreenShots\ folder in DCS installation.
dxdiag report
- Run DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag.exe) and click Save All Information button. (How to run dxdiag: Vista, 7)
Event Log
- Look if there are any records about the error in the Windows event log (via Event Viewer). A full error text is needed. (How to open Event Viewer: XP, Vista, 7).
In any case expert should also know
- whether the problem presents both in Single player and in Multiplayer;
- your Windows version;
- number of the installed Windows service pack (if any);
- DCS version (box, downloadable, language);
- patch language and version;
- at what moment exactly does the error occurs.
If you're unable to copy-paste error text, make a screenshot of it. You can use a Snipping Tool for that: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool (guides: Windows Vista, 7).
