Get the distributive
Where can I get the distributive?
- See image on the right.
- Any customer can re-download the distributive as many times as he needs. There are no age limits for access.
Resuming broken downloads
- A download manager is the best solution to handle disconnects and slowdowns. This guide is for a lite version of open source Free Download Manager (the FDM):
- Once you have FDM installed and running:
- Login on the site and get the link to the file. (Right-click and select save link adress.)
- In the FDM main window push the leftmost button "Add download". An "Add download" dialog window will pop up.
- Paste the link into the "URL" field and choose where to save the file in "Save to folder" item. Finally press "OK" to confirm.
- A download record will appear and downloading will start immediately. Notice that FDM uses several simultaneous connections to get the file.
- If the download has stopped:
- Do not delete the download record in the FDM.
- Login on the site and copy a new link of the file (links change from session to session).
- In the FDM right click on the download record and choose "Download properties". "Download :properties" dialog window will appear.
- Paste the new link instead of the old one into "URL" field. Finally press "OK" to confirm.
- Make sure the appropriate download record is selected in the FDM and press "Start download" button. The downloading will continue from the place where it stopped.
- Download resuming isn't supported for downloads from lockon.co.uk and lockon.ru sites for now (December 2009).
- If you encounter a broken file (error code 13 or 23 while installing) open Options menu > Network tab > set "Maximum number of connections per one server" to 1.
- To make sure the file is intact you may copy-paste MD5 checksum to "Add download" > "Advanced" > "Integrity" > "Valid checksum of this file". The file will be automatically checked for consistence after downloading. MD5 checksums are on the mirrors list page.
- As general advice, notice that you can use different mirrors to download. If the speed is bad just copy-paste the link of another mirror to the FDM download record.
Verifying integrity of the distributive
- In case of a CRC error it's possible to find out which file is corrupted. Here is an open source utility which verifies files by checksums:
- You´ll find MD5 checksums for each file on the page with mirrors list (Files > Products > Download).
Install
How do I install the downloaded distributive
- Distributive consists of two files: setup.exe and data1.cab.
- Download both files and save them in the same directory. The file names should be setup.exe and data1.cab (the second filename is important)
- The files are only required for the installation process and can be discarded after, although you may want to create a back-up first.
NSIS error (Installer integrity check has failed)
Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy. More information at: http://nsis.sf.net/NSIS_Error
- Temporary disable User Account Control (UAC) in Windows.
(Windows Vista: Turn off; Windows 7: Never notify me). - Re-download file setup.exe.
- Temporary disable User Account Control (UAC) in Windows.
Extractor errors
- Code 2 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND
- Most likely, one of the two installation files is missing. Either you didn't download it or it isn't in the same folder.
- Code 3 - ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND
- The installer directory path is too long and/or includes non-English characters. Try a shorter path with all English characters.
- Code 13 - ERROR_INVALID_DATA
- Code 23 - ERROR_CRC
- Re-download data1.cab firstly, if problem persists re-download setup.exe too.
- Notice it's possible to find out which file is corrupted.
Installer freezes
- Something interferes in the installation process.
- Try installing in Windows Safe Mode (how to get there: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7).
Patching
Patches location
- Patches are in Files > Patches section. Make sure you're downloading the patch in the same language as your DCS version.
Manual installation of a patch
- Extract it with some utility (e.g. Universal Extractor).
- Extract DeleteObsoleteFiles.bat to DCS installation and launch it there. After it finishes its work you can delete this bat file.
- Extract (overwriting) contents of $[31] folder and both l10n and missions folders to the DCS installation.
Patch won't install
- "Black Shark NOT FOUND. Reinstall application"
- The Path variable of Black Shark branch in Windows registry doesn't exist.
- It contains a wrong path to Black Shark installation.
DCS: Black Shark Paths
Default installation path
- For 32 bit Windows: Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50
- For 64 bit Windows: Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50
Settings location when UAC enabled
- If you have User Account Control enabled and installed DCS in Program Files folder the new files will appear in:
- C:\Users\<INSERTUSERNAMEHERE!>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50
Windows registry branch
- For 32 bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Eagle Dynamics\BlackShark
- For 64 bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Eagle Dynamics\BlackShark
Documentation
- All manuals are stored in DCS installation in Doc folder. There should be shortcuts to them in Start menu under Eagle Dynamics > Ka-50 group.
- Also it's possible to download Flight Manual in different languages from DCS web site: Files > Manuals.
Problem reporting
Error message
- Copy-paste Ctrl+C contents of the error message while it's active or make a screenshot at least.
Installation log
- To obtain installation log press Details button during install, right-click on the log and press Copy Details to Clipboard, then paste Ctrl+V them to a new text file, email body or quote in a post on the forum.
Event Log
- Look if there are any records about the error in the Windows event log (via Event Viewer). A full error text is needed. (How to open Event Viewer: XP, Vista, 7).
In any case expert should also know
- your Windows version;
- number of the installed Windows service pack (if any);
- DCS version (box, downloadable, language);
- patch language and version;
- at what moment exactly does the error occurs.
If you're unable to copy-paste error text, make a screenshot of it. You can use a Snipping Tool for that: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool (guides: Windows Vista, 7).
